IsraAID team off to The Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan
TACLOBAN – One of the strongest typhoons ever to make landfall devastated the central Philippines, killing more than 1,200 people in one city alone and 200 in another province, the local government estimates reports of high casualties is only beginning to emerge. A day after Typhoon Haiyan churned through the Philippine archipelago in a straight line from east to west, rescue teams struggled to reach far-flung regions, hampered by washed out roads, many choked with debris and fallen trees. Over half a million people left homeless many of them injured due to falling houses, trees and buildings.
IsraAID’s Emergency Response Team will deploy to the hardest-hit areas in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan, a catastrophic storm that with winds of over 300 km/h is among the strongest recorded in modern times. IsraAID will be sending medical professionals to provide critical health interventions in the affected region.
