Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

A healthy community’s very foundation

IsraAID works in the fields of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), providing access to safe water, hygiene supplies, and necessary information to support healthy and resilient communities.

Access to safe water, adequate sanitation, and hygiene materials is crucial to the health, dignity, and economic and social opportunity of individuals and communities. Lack of safe water is felt community-wide. Children miss school due to sickness, parents spend significant time away from home fetching water, and community members suffer from malnutrition and dehydration. IsraAID’s water engineers and other specialists provide sustainable WASH solutions around the world, led by local needs and conducted in partnership with communities on the ground.

These programs range from hygiene promotion and education and distributing household water filters to repairing wells and constructing large-scale community water systems. Oftentimes in disasters, water systems and access to safe water can be adversely affected, and contaminated water sources can lead to secondary health emergencies.

SPOTLIGHT: LATANO

“The first water system here was damaged in 1980. Since then, there has been no water in Latano – until today. The whole population of the Latano community is really happy deep down in our hearts. We are overjoyed because of the water system here.”
